— It's Essex County Fair time! Events at the fair begin at 9 a.m., and continue throughout the day, then stay the evening to experience all the fun rides. The fair will run through Sunday, Aug. 12. Go, spend a day and have a great time!

This week's "Adirondack Rivers: A Mind of There Own" lecture series is presented by Commissioner Wayne Reynolds of the Delaware County Department of Public Works, he'll explain the mistakes and lessons learned with rebuilding bridges and highways following severe flooding. Contact the Adirondack History Center at 873-6466 for tonight's tickets, Thursday, Aug. 9, 7 p.m. presentation.

On Saturday, Aug. 11, Paddle the Boquet River with BRASS Treasurer, Schell McKinley. If you're interested, meet at the Dogwood Bread Company on County Route 10 in Wadhams, bring your own watercraft, paddles, personal floatation, sunscreen, food and drink. Call Schell at 962-8346 to confirm the final plans.

Make plans for Saturday evening with the ECH Auxiliary to attend their eighth Annual Dinner @ 8 fundraiser. This year they are keeping it simple by having one large cocktail party, instead of the usual small private parties. The auxiliary is hoping the venue change will allow them to introduce their role in the hospital's fundraising, have more community members know the hospital's services and staff. Also, on Saturday evening, is the Depot Threatre's Gala Benefit at the Westport Country Club. This year's guests will enjoy a 50's dance theme, food and auction. More information is available on their website; depottheatre.org or call 962-4449.

The Elizbethtown-Westport Garden Club, EWGC, is having their Annual Fashion Show Luncheon at the Westport Inn and Tavern (Westport Hotel) on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 11:30 a.m. The Bessboro Shop from Westport will model their fall collection, there will be door prizes, beautifully filled baskets and gifts to raffle. Tickets ($22) are on sale now at the Bessboro Shop or by calling 962-8348.

Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union is having their third annual Back To School Supply Drive for area students. Donations will be collected throughout the month of August. Local drop off areas are the Elizabethtown Branch, ELCS, and Westport Central School.
