The stage was made possible in part from funds received from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Environmental Protection Agency and donations from businesses, organizations and individuals in the community.
“People come from all over to see our shows,” Merchant said.
Shows in August include bands, comedy and opera by Merchant’s son, Scott, who is from the area and performs around the world.
It is a 20x30 three-sided structure with a roof and handicap accessibility.
A little more than $30,000 has been spent on the facility on Lake Street in three years.
The funds raised will help bring it closer to completion and cover the costs of hiring performers.
Merchant urged people from throughout the region to catch a show.
“Just bring a chair or a blanket.”
