Jay The town of Jay in conjunction with the Au Sable Forks Fire Department is desperately in need of volunteers to help maintain the kitchen for the emergency shelter. Jay’s plan is to continue to provide meals in the form of a light breakfast (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.), a light lunch (noon to 2 p.m.) and dinner (5 to 7 p.m.)
At this time, this emergency shelter kitchen is serving hundreds of emergency services volunteers, the Army Corp of Engineers, the National Guard, and any victims of the flood that do not have access to, or the ability to prepare their own food.
The Au Sable Forks Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary has been handling this enormous task, however many of them need to take care of their own flooded homes. Therefore the town of Jay is asking that anyone that may offer their time cooking or serving the kitchen plase contact the superviro’s office at 647-2204. Jay is also looking for anyone who might bring a covered dish to share, or donate any of the following items: cold meats, chips, salads, plastic utensils, paper plates and cups, hot dogs, hamburger, and rolls.
Other items include: chicken, ground beef, pasta salads, macaroni salads, fresh vegetables, fruits, cereal, eggs, bacon sausage, milk and juice.
The town is also requesting donations of cleaning supplies that can be used by flood victims in the cleanup of their homes, such as mops, latex gloves, floor cleaner, disinfectants and brooms.
The Brookside Motor Inn in Upper Jay is also providing meals for volunteers, residents and those unable to get to the site in Au Sable Forks every evening at 6 p.m.
These items may be dropped off at the town of Jay superviro’s office in the town of Jay Community Center located at 11 School Lane in Au Sable Forks. For information, call 647-2204.
Any offers of help or donations will be greatly appreciated. Please also note that Jay has a limited supply of bottled water, however the town has a portable water tank located at the Community Center in Au Sable Forks. Please feel free to bring your own containers to fill with fresh water.
