Plattsburgh The Plattsburgh High Hornets used the home field advantage to secure the Division I boys soccer title and the top seed in the Section VII/Class B playoffs with a 1-0 win against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars Oct. 20.
David Carpenter scored in the 74th minute of play on a Coby Dergham assist to give the Hornets (14-0-1, 11-0-1) all the scoring they would need, as Chris Roenbeck made four saves to secure the shutout, while Josh Rabideau made eight saves for the Cougars (11-1-2, 9-1-2), who will be the second seed in the Class B playoffs. The Beekmantown Eagles, who had a bye, will be the third seed (9-5-0, 8-4-0).
The fourth seeded Peru Indians (7-7-1, 5-6-1) scored an 8-1 win over the sixth-place finishing Saranac Lake Red Storm (2-10-0), as Ian Spear scored four goals (16th, 19th, 28th, 73rd) and Jacob Dick added three more (30th, 34th penalty kick, 62nd) in the victory. Travis Turgeon added the eighth goal of the game on a penalty kick (60th). Dick also had one assist, as did Jonathan Plessus-Belair and Ryan McCall. Brad Pariera scored the lone goal of the game for the Red Storm.
The Saranac Chiefs (6-8-2, 4-6-2,) secured the fifth seed with a 5-1 victory over the AuSable Valley Patriots (0-14-0, 0-12-0), Kolby Keysor scored three goals in the 15th, 65th and 67th minute. Brandon Terry opened the scoring for the Chiefs in the sixth minute, while Micah Patterson scored in the 14th. Alex Conner scored the lone goal for the Patriots in the 60th minute.
In Division II, champion and top Class D seed Willsboro (12-2-2, 10-0-2) made sure that there would be no comeback the second time around by posting a 5-0 shutout win against the Lake Placid Blue Bombers (4-8-0, 4-8-0), who have the second best record among Class C teams. Clay Sherman scored four goals for the fifth-ranked Warriors in the 16th, 22nd, 28th (Jeff Bigelow) and 45th minutes. Nick Arnold opened the scoring for the Warriors in the fifth minute on a Clayton Cross assist.
