Sports wrap: Twice as nice for Willsboro in Chazy season series (w. photo galleries)

Warriors get second against Eagles; PHS wins in Div. I; Westport girls close in on Div. III title

— In Division I, the battle for third place ended in a draw, as the Peru Indians and Saranac Chiefs split four goals in a 2-2 tie.

Sean Harrigan and Ian Spear scored first half goals for the Indians, while Nicholas Less scored in the first half and Durgan Zappala scored the equalizer in the 60th minute of play.

Plattsburgh High scored a victory in their final tune-up before a showdown with Northeastern Clinton as Dan Carpenter scored in the 77th minute to give the Hornets a 1-0 win over the Beekmantown Eagles. Derek Olsen had seven saves for the Eagles, while Chris Roenbeck made five saves for the Hornets.

Saranac Lake also picked up a Division I win with a 2-1 victory against AuSable Valley. Alec MacLean and Nick Bayruns scored the goals for the Red Storm, while Kyle Sprague scored the lone goal for the Patriots.

In Division III, Brandon Dumas made eight saves for the Keene Beavers, who were unable to score an equalizer in a 1-0 loss against Schroon Lake.

Girls soccer

The Westport Lady Eagles moved one step closer to a Division III title with a 3-1 victory over the Wells Indians Oct. 13.

Ellie Schwoebel scored the opening goal on an Allison Sherman assist in the 16th minute, while Delany Sears scored on a Samantha Roy assist in the 20th minute. Emily Rascoe also scored on a Roy assist, her goal coming in the 49th minute, while Karlee McGee made four saves.

Volleyball

The Beekmantown Eagles continued their run through the CVAC with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-13 straight games win against AuSable Valley Oct. 13.

Shannon Ryan finished 10 kills for the Eagles, while Kiana Archer added 27 assists, Kendra LaFountain had 12 digs and Chelsey Besaw added 10 digs.

Belle O'Toole had 14 digs and nine assists for the Patriots, with Jacquie Hoey adding 14 digs and Miranda Sheffer netting six kills.

Also, The Northern Adirondack Bobcats dropped the opening game against the Plattsburgh High Hornets Oct. 13, but the rallied for a 19-25, 25-12, 25-19, 26-24 win.

Tessa King had 11 kills and seven assists for the Bobcats, while Nicole Durnin added 11 kills, Ariel Filion had 14 assists, Hannah Charland scored 10 kills, and Emma Trombley had 15 assists.

Katie Cantwell had 14 kills for the Hornets, while Deanna LaBarge had seven kills and Kianna Dragoon with 22 assists.
