Sports wrap: Oct. 4

Lions shutout Westport

The Elizabethtown-Lewis Lions scored four of their five goals in the first half during a 5-0 victory Oct. 4 against the Westport Eagles.

Hunter Mowery scored the opening goal of the game in the eighth minute before Brody Hooper scored the next three goals in the 12th, 25th and 33rd minute. Connor Apthorp scored in the 51st minute to cap the scoring.

Ryan Davis made 27 saves for the Eagles, while Brock Marvin had a lone save in the shutout.

Beavers blank Orange

The Keene Beavers scored a pair of second half goals to tally a 2-0 win against the Indian Lake/Long Lake Orange Oct. 4.

Colton Venner scored in the 44th minute, and Austin Holbrook tallied an insurance goal in the 72nd minute on a Jack VanWie's assist.

Brandon Dumas had six saves for the Beavers.


Chiefs beat Patriots in five

The Saranac Chiefs dropped the opening game in their Oct. 4 meeting against the AuSable Valley Patriots, but were able to come back and score a five game victory.

The Patriots scored a 25-16 win in the first game and a 25-20 game to keep themselves alive after the fourth game, while the Chiefs scored wins of 25-13 in the second, 25-22 in the third and 27-25 in the fourth.

Jasmine Barnard had 15 assists for the Chiefs, while Sam Aierle added two aces and Katelyn Gates combined four kills and 16 digs.

Miranda Sheffer's had eight aces, seven kills and eight digs for the Patriots, while Belle O'Toole had six digs and 22 assists and Jacquie Hoey hit four aces and three kills to go with 26 digs.

Cougars defeat Blue Bombers

The Northeastern Clinton Cougars scored a 25-21 in the fifth and decisive game to beat the Lake Placid Blue Bombers Oct. 4.
