Vets to hold Memorial Day events

Assemblywoman Sayward, representing the 113th Assembly District in New York, will be the guest speaker. She was invited by Long Lake's American Legion Post 650. Each year, she is invited to many Memorial Day ceremonies but can only attend a few, she said. She will be at a service in South Glens Falls on May 27 and in the town of Moriah on the morning of May 30.

"There's no better time to honor our veterans," Sayward said, referring to the U.S. military presence in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan. "With so many things happening around the world today, I think the timing right now is so important."

This Memorial Day, Sayward will draw from personal experiences, as she currently has a 23-year-old grandson who is attending Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Tribute to the Troops

More than a dozen local veterans will be honored this Memorial Day weekend during a Tribute to the Troops multimedia event in Indian Lake, Long Lake and Tupper Lake.

The program, sponsored by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, will feature the screening of pre-recorded interviews with U.S. servicemen and women and a concert by singer-songwriter Peggy Lynn.

The Tribute to the Troops will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 28 at the Indian Lake Theater; 7 p.m. Sunday, May 29 at the Tupper Lake High School; and 4 p.m. Monday, May 30 at the Long Lake Town Hall.
