Church beach party
The First Presbyterian Church on 2 Stewart Farrar St. in Warrensburg is going "tropical" soon, as it holds a festive event that's open to the public.
They're holding a free Beach Party/Luau from 4:30-7 p.m. Tuesday June 7 with games, food, and activities for children and adults.
They're not scrimping on the food, either.
They'll be serving grilled Oscar's Smoke House burgers and hot dogs accompanied by all the traditional fixings, Pastor Lucy Harris said Tuesday.
"We're kicking off the summer in style," she said.
The event includes a "beach" - two wading pools, one filled with sand, and another, with water, along with beach balls, leis, and other tropical stuff, she said.
"Our aim is to let the community enjoy the fun we have all the time," she said.
The church is expecting up to 150 people for the event. In February, Harris held a popular Mardi Gras fest, and a third event, a harvest celebration, is planned for September.
In case of rain, the beach will be moved indoors, she said.
For details on the event, call Pastor Harris at 623-2723. Those who live within 10 miles of the church and need a ride, may call that number to arrange for a ride, if required, she said.
St. Cecilia's golf event
St. Cecilia's Catholic Community will hold its annual golf outing Aug. 14 at Cronin's Golf Course, and reservations are now being accepted for the event.
The golf outing features a shotgun start at 1 p.m.. The fee, $95 per person, includes golf and cart, hot dog lunch, prizes, awards and steak dinner. For registration, contact Tim Morrison at 623-9461.
World War II lecture
Long-time community resident Dennis Galloway will be hosting a fundraiser presentation focusing on World War II.
Set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28 at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in Lake George, Galloway plans to share his war experiences, illustrated by maps and articles from the war on display. A question-and-answer session will follow. Donations of $10 will go to Guardians' House, a homeless shelter for female veterans in Saratoga.
