Parades, ceremonies to mark Memorial Day locally

LUDLOW-Veterans, families and friends of Rutland and Windsor counties-and several communities in nearby southern Addison County-will observe Memorial Day with a mix of small parades and memorial ceremonies.

Rutland County's largest seasonal parade, the Loyalty Day Parade, was held in the City of Rutland earlier this month; it acted as the city's patriotic commemoration of the Memorial Day spirit.

The public is invited to all the following events. All parades and ceremonies are free.


Memorial Day Ceremony

Monday, May 30,

11 a.m.

The town's annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Benson Town Office. The solemn service will include a special prayer and convocation. Other community events are planned throughout the day. Check with the town clerk for details.


Brandon Memorial Day

Monday, May 30

10 a.m.

The annual Brandon Memorial Day will start in front of the downtown U.S. Post Office at 10 a.m. The parade route will follow U.S. Route 7 to the Brandon Green. Across from the library, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Brandon Civil War Monument. A portion of Route 7 will be closed during the parade between 10-10:30 a.m.


Annual Chester Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 30

9 a.m.

The Chester American Legion Post 67 Memorial Day Parade will depart at 9 a.m. from the Route 103 side of Church Street with a ceremony held on the Chester Green. The Chester American Legion is in charge of organizing the annual event.


Ludlow Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 30, 2011

9 a.m.

The annual Ludlow Memorial Day Parade will start near town hall on Main Street with local high school marching bands, veterans groups, and other civic organizations participating. Several food and beverage vendors will be on hand, and other community events are planned.
