MIDDLEBURY-Take a hike Willy Wonka because there's a new candy king in town-meet Middlebury Sweets.
"At Middlebury Sweets we cater to the kid in you," according to Blanca Jenne.
Blanca and her husband Brad Jenne are owners of Vermont's largest candy outlet called simply, Middlebury Sweets. The Jennes also own Middlebury's U-Haul & ABC Self Storage.
The candy retailer is located at 12 Ossie Rd. (Route 116)-just east of the intersection of Routes 7 and 116-next to the U-Haul outlet, in East Middlebury.
"Our focus at Middlebury Sweets is to provide a fun and unforgettable experience for our customers when they visit our sweet shop in East Middlebury," said Blanca.
The Jennes said their target customer is the "kid in you"; their mission is to stock top quality and hard-to-find sweet treats in the shop as well as provide a fun, friendly atmosphere with a commitment to customer service.
"With our very recent expansion of the candy store we are now the largest candy store in Vermont," Blanca added.
Middlebury Sweets shared a space with the Jennes scrapbook store, Scrapbook & Rubber Stamp Paradise. At the time, it consisted of four candy cases of chocolates and candy.
"We still have the scrapbook store but on a much smaller scale," Blanca said. "Now, Middlebury Sweets uses over 80 percent of our retail space."
During the Easter season just ended, the Jennes began to make their own chocolates.
"We started out with making handmade chocolate bunnies," Blanca said. "They hopped right off the shelves. So we plan on making chocolates for all the major holidays and begin developing some specialties of our own such as handmade chocolate dipped marshmallows in many unique flavors and varieties."
Finding top-notch candy for the East Middlebury is what the Jennes do best.
"We have a huge selection of great products to choose from including fine chocolates, Vermont made truffles, Lake Champlain chocolate, Vermont Nut Free chocolate, sugar free chocolates, and fudge," she said.
