ELIZABETHTOWN-On the final Monday of the month of May, people from around the country take a moment to remember those who not only served their country, but paid the ultimate price in doing so.
Several communities in Essex County will hold Memorial Day services and parades on Monday,
The American Legion Posts of Elizabethtown and Lewis are organizing the annual Memorial Day parade and memorial service to take place in Elizabethtown on Monday, May 30.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and starts from Hand Avenue by the History Center Museum. The parade will proceed south along Court Street, passing by the County Government Center, and ends by the Elizabethtown Golf Course.
After the parade, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the American Legion will conduct a Memorial Day service in the Windsor Park, which is across Court Street from the Grand Union.
Elements of the parade will be military service veterans, Boy and Girl Scout troops, fire departments, equestrian groups, classic and antique cars, Civil War re-enactors, etc. For more information, call Newman Tryon at 873-2138.
The Marcy Post 1312 of the American Legion in Keene will host its annual Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
The service will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Site on Cemetery Lane, and organizers report that the first phase of the new Veteran's Memorial should be completed at that time.
The Tupper Lake Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. at the veteran's memorial next to the State Theater on Park Street.
Guest speakers will be Navy Reserve Commander Paul Maroun and Red Hatter Darlene Willett. Wreaths will be laid by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Marine Corps League.
The public is welcome to attend.
