Farm guide opportunity for Warren County ag producers

BALLSTON SPA - Warren County Agricultural producers have the opportunity to be included in a new Warren County Farm Guide.

Cornell University Cooperative Extension Warren County was awarded a New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets grant to develop a Warren County Farm Guide and encourages farmers to participate.

A Warren County Farm Guide will allow for more collaborating information to be made available to the public in their search for locally grown products and educational farm tours. This information will include a listing of farms along with potentially a listing of Warren County farmers' markets, ongoing agricultural events and festivals, a harvest calendar, information on why one should buy local, and important agricultural facts.

Farms will be asked to contribute $20 towards their inclusion in the farm guide. 15,000 farm guides will be distributed to promote local farms and food in Warren County. Even if a farm does not currently utilize direct marketing of their products or agritourism opportunities, their inclusion is still important as it illustrates where farms currently operate and reinforces the notion that all farms, large and small, occupy important niches in the fabric of the local farm economy.

If you are interested in being included in the guide and grow or produce an agricultural-related product, please contact Paula Schafer at 885-8995 or pjb11@cornell.edu as soon as possible to receive and complete a farm guide survey.
