Elvis Fest returns to Lake George June 2-5

LAKEGEORGE-The eighth annual Lake George Elvis Fest is approaching, and and the event's founder Jason Sherry said this week this year's event may draw the largest crowd and be the most memorable to date.

Although the event has traditionally centered on presenting Elvis tribute artists performing hits by The King, the last two years have included Friday-night performances by entertainers impersonating other rock 'n roll greats.

This year, the roster on the Friday night concert - now featuring an admission fee - includes tributes to Neil Diamond, Ricky Nelson, Elton John, Johnny Cash, James Brown, Roy Orbison and Connie Francis - plus two Elvis impersonation acts.

"The show has been a huge success," festival director Jason Sherry said. "We change it up each year by bringing in new performers, but it has become a staple of our annual festival."

Tribute to Rock and Roll History starts at 8 p.m. Friday June 3. Tickets for the show range from $35 to $165, with weekend packages starting at $70.

Festival events include three days of competition featuring more than 50 Elvis tribute artists, a classic car parade through Lake George, Elvis After Hours parties, an Elvis Collectibles sale and Las Vegas-style headline shows throughout the weekend.

The 2011 fest include the Ultimate Elvis Wedding, which will offer Elvis fans to opportunity to either get legally married or have their vows renewed by ordained minister and Elvis tribute artist Gary-Elvis Britt. The event, is to take place during Sunday's free Elvis gospel concert.

The weekend festival's other new offering is Thursday night's show, "Interpreting Elvis," which features two performers - Dwight Icenhower and Ted Torres - impersonating Elvis unplugged. They'll be interpreting Elvis' music with their own style, out of character and out of costume.

The event is part of the four-day LakeGeorge.com Elvis Festival which also includes the shows "Interpreting Elvis" on Thursday June 2 and Evolution: The King's Journey on Saturday June 4.
