The Thurman Youth Commission Board meets Friday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at the Thurman Town Hall. The public is invited to attend town meetings.

Youth summer jobs to be filled

Teens ages 14 to 16 who want a summer job can fill in an application for a position as a town recreation program counselor. There is also an opening for director of the youth summer recreation program. Those over age 18 are eligible to apply. There's a deadline of May 31 to submit the applications for the positions, so stop by the town hall with a completed application as soon as possible.

Office position now open

The town clerk position is in need of a person with office skills and computer knowledge. This job opening is a part time position and anyone interested should send a letter of interest and a resume to the town board, P.O. Box 29, Athol, 12810.

Memorial Day reminders:

The town offices will be closed Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

Citizens who visit graves in the town cemeteries are asked to help keep the grounds tidy. There is no town cemetery committee at this time, so when local folks decorate graves in remembrance of loved ones, they should take along a bag and pick up the items being replaced. Townspeople are asking that everyone help keep the cemeteries neat.

Report the illicit activities

Warmer weather is bringing out the partying teenagers. Now is the time to be alert and call the anonymous tip line if you see drinking or any type of drug use. Teens often engage in these activities, thinking they achieve some sort of distinction among their peers, but end up overdosing, or getting into vehicle crashes, or land in jail.

So help them out by calling 761-9800 and you may save a life. Remember to keep your prescription medicine hidden or locked up. As we hear about too many times on television, children can get really ill or die from drug abuse.
