Franklin County agrees to pay remainder of village lease

The village of Saranac Lake agreed on a settlement Monday with Franklin County for lease payments it owed the village.

The county had signed a lease through 2013 to house its Social Services and Public Health nurses offices on the second floor of the village office building; however, the county moved those offices to the Saranac Lake Adult Center last year and still owes the village about $50,000 on the lease.

The county had been refusing to make the payments after it moved to the new location, and the village was preparing to sue to recover the money.

Instead, county legislators issued a formal apology to the village and agreed to pay $53,000 including in-kind services and materials to fulfill the terms under its lease agreement.
