Sears, sidewalks, and sewer lines at SL village meeting next week

The village of Saranac Lake will host a pair of public hearings early next week on the proposed abandonment of sidewalks and the use of grant funds to replace sewer infrastructure.

Monday's schedule begins at 4:30 p.m. with a meeting of the new Saranac Lake Local Development Corporation.

At 5 p.m., trustees will hear public comment on a proposed program amendment to utilize state Community Development Block Grant funds to replace a sanitary sewer line.

Then, at 5:10 p.m., the board will host a public hearing on the proposed abandonment of sidewalks in the village. A list of sidewalks is available at the village's website, www.saranaclakeny.gov, and at the village offices.

The regular meeting gets under way at 5:30 p.m. Trustees may also get an earful Monday about the Sears parking lot.

Paolo Magro, a local business owner, wants the village to lease the lot from him and reopen it to the public. Residents who support reopening the lot plan to attend the meeting and make their case to the board.
