Meet PHS scholar Lindsey Fox

POULTNEY-Poultney High School announced its class of 2011 valedictorian, Lindsey Fox, daughter of Edward and Helen Fox of Poultney.

In addition to Fox's ambitious academic endeavors, Lindsey is a member of the PHS National Honors Society and was a senior leader on the girl's varsity basketball team winning the 2011 Division IV State Championship. She has spearheaded and participated in a number of community service projects, both in school and the greater community.

Fox's unwavering commitment has earned her a number of academic accolades over the years, including the Mathematics Achievement Award, the Double Helix Science Award, and the Physical Education Award. She is a dynamic, hardworking individual who, in addition to her schoolwork, which included college coursework, managed to work three jobs. In the fall Lindsey will attend the University of Vermont.

Zachary Sawyer is the class of 2011's salutatorian.

Sawyer is the son of David and Lyn Sawyer of Poultney. Multitalented and deeply committed, he is the president of the Student Council, a member of the PHS National Honors Society and the school's Athletic Council. His versatile interests include music, classic literature, outdoor recreation, travel, and martial arts.

Sawyer has represented PHS through a number of leadership programs including Green Mountain Boy's State, the National Young Leaders Conference, and the American Legion Law and Order Cadet Training Program. Additionally, Zachary has devoted himself to a wide variety of service projects.

He is extremely motivated and determined to meet any goal he strives to reach, including completing several college courses during his high school career. He will attend Georgetown University in the fall.
