The town of Tupper Lake agreed to swap a parcel of town-owned land for a village lot during a board meeting last week.
The deal is a way of reconciling the town's accidental sale of a village-owned lot near North Little Wolf Road. Town officials believed they were cashing in on some vacant land, but a tax map search after the transaction revealed that it wasn't all theirs to sell.
The two-acre lot sold at auction in December to Michael and Kathy Kenniston for $21,600. When the town found out that the village owned part of the property, it began looking for ways to remedy the situation.
The land deal is seen by both village and town officials as a no-fuss maneuver that will allow the land sale to go through.
In exchange for the village-owned lot, the town will turn over a piece of land it owns near the Civic Center on the corner of Santa Clara and McLaughlin Avenues.
