Local Civil War soldiers topic of talk
The Warren County Historical Society is conducting several programs soon, and the public is invited.
On Wednesday, May 18, the free program "Civil War Begins for the North Country," is to be presented by Joan Aldous at 7 p.m. in Queensbury Church of the King, 685 Bay Road, across from the SUNY Adirondack campus. Planned is a special performance of Civil War period music by Mike Yates. Aldous, who co-authored a chapter in the new Warren County History book, will be referring to letters and photographs of local citizens and soldiers. Car show, plant sale this week
The annual Warrensburg Car Show is set for Sunday, May 15 in the local elementary school parking lot at 1 James St.
To be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is includes classic cars, street rods, antique vehicles, muscle cars, compacts, sports cars, SUVs, motorcycles and specialty vehicles. All vehicles are welcome to participate. Pre-registration, for only $10 entry fee, is available through May 14. Registering the day of the show costs $15 per vehicle. Spectators are charged $3. Proceeds go to the Warrensburg Elementary School playground fund.
Then on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., there's the Lake George Community Garden Club's Perennial Plant Sale in Shepard Park, in Lake George. The plants are locally grown in the gardens of club members, who will be available to share planting tips.
Burger Dash race this weekend
The second annual Burgher Dash footrace is set for Saturday May 14 at the Warrensburg Elementary School on 1 James St. The 5K run starts at 9:30 a.m. The funds raised from the race will benefit the playground committee at the elementary school.
