New NC Ministry director introduced

LAKEGEORGE - About 150 people with philanthropic inclinations attended the Spring Gala Fundraiser for North Country Ministry May 6, enjoying festive socializing at the annual dinner-dance while they helped others in need.

The event, held at Fort William Henry Hotel, featured silent and live auctions and magic by David MacDonald.

Attendees bid on goods and services donated by area businesses and individuals.

Although the attendance was down about 20 percent from last year, event publicist Phyllis Meader said donations were still robust, and all those attending deserved heartfelt appreciation for helping their North Country neighbors, a record number who are now facing critical needs.

At the event, Ministry officials announced the appointment of Jill Harrington as executive director, effective July 1. She is currently executive assistant for the group.

Harrington will succeed Brother James Posluszny, who has served as executive director of the agency for 12 years. Ministry board members, who said Posluszny has worked tirelessly in his position, paid tribute to him and his work.

Harrington, who joined the agency staff in 2002, has worked extensively with all aspects of NCM as it has grew significantly. She has earned an a Master's Degree from Wagner College where she also taught. In her early career, she was a research chemist with Exxon Corp. and the Mennen Company. She is a resident of North Creek with her husband, Robert Osowiecki and daughters, Heather and Holly. Involved in many community activities, Jill has served as Executive Director of Upper Musical Hudson Arts, Meader said.

North Country Ministry is an ecumenical, not-for-profit outreach organization that provides services to individuals and families in need in northern Warren County.

The agency serves over 1,000 people monthly and covers an area over 600 square miles.

Their services include supportive counseling, advocacy and referral, a mealsite, a family clothing shop, furniture donations, an emergency assistance fund, parenting support, housing rehabilitation and adult living units.
