There are daffodils coming in the garden and color is coming back into our world. Everything is growing so fast. The rain soaked in so quickly, it gave everything a jump start. The trillium are out already and I went picking fiddlehead ferns yesterday. They will probably be gone by next week because it is supposed to be warm all week. I love the trillium but my favorite spring flower is the lady slipper. I cannot wait to see their little heads peak out of the ground.
I have two patches of yellow and a patch of pink ones near my home. They remind me of John Cornwall because they were his favorite also. The day of his funeral I walked to our pond behind the house and for the first time, I found one on the trail. They came back the next year and I have not found them since. Strange. It is one of my most treasured finds each year. They are all back. I bought a showy white ladyslipper from one of the catalogs and I cannot find it yet. I am hoping that it survived. It was the most expensive thing I ever bought from a plant catalog.
Our first Ski Bowl garden work day will be May 18 starting at 9:30 p.m. Come anytime. We are starting to get ready for the plant exchange and sale. Most plants are $1, but there are a few special ones that will be more. It is time to separate your perennials so if you are interested, come and exchange them or bring them over for the sale to benefit the garden. We will be buying bagged compost and mulch for the garden with the proceeds. Thanks to all of you who have been over working on your plots already. Everything looks pretty good so far.
If you have never helped with the garden come on over for a visit and see what we do. It is a fun day and we could use the help.
