Woman arrested for welfare fraud

QUEENSBURY-Angela J. Genier, 35, of Queensbury was charged with welfare fraud in the fourth degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree after an investigation into a report from the Warren County Department of Social Services that she failed to accurately report her total household composition when applying for temporary assistance.

Genier allegedly applied for temporary assistance in January and failed to report all persons residing in her household including a male who is employed. Social Services determines eligibility to obtain and maintain public assistance benefits based on budget calculations that includes the number and income of all persons residing in the applying household.

As a result, she received more than $1,110 in temporary assistance benefits that she was otherwise ineligible to collect and was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Queensbury Court.
