Ti museum to come alive

TICONDEROGA-There's no ancient curse like the movie, but the Hancock House will come alive during the inaugural "A Night at the Museum."

Sponsored by the Ticonderoga Historical Society and the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, the event will be held Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m. at the Hancock House museum, 6 Moses Circle.

"Join us for a jam-packed and fun-filled evening where history comes alive," stated June Curtis, Ticonderoga Historical Society board member.

Matt Courtright, chamber executive director, said the evening will include historic re-enactments and activities, hors d'oeuvres, sweet treats, wine and song. Admission is $15 a person and $25 a couple.

For more information or to RSVP, contact the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce at 585-6619 or the Hancock House at 585-7868.

"I'd been working closely with Matt Courtright on a number of interests when Matt suggested that the historical society and the chamber get together for a joint fundraiser," Curtis said. "A committee of three, Matt, Beth Iuliano and I, began planning for 'A Night at the Museum,' taking inspiration from the original children's book and a later movie. When the sun goes down, the museum comes to life.

"The elegant Hancock House provides the perfect setting for 'A Night at the Museum' with several activities being organized," she added. "Although there will be no ancient curses and none of the film's chaotic activity, there will be individuals taking on the persona of historical figures and exhibits that will truly come to life. Our scavenger hunt mixes a bit of history with a lot of amusement as guests follow the clever clues to win the prize. A special silent auction, supported by local businesses, museums and an artist from the Ticonderoga Arts will be offered and the high bidders will be taking their auction treasures home with them that evening."
