Ti hospital gets new interim CEO

TICONDEROGA-Inter-Lakes Health has entered into an agreement with a Burlington facility for management services.

The New York State Department of Health has approved the deal between the Ti health care organization and Fletcher Allen Executive Services, LLC. Fletcher Allen Executive Services is a subsidiary of Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. New York regulations required state approval of the deal.

Inter-Lakes Health operates Moses Ludington Hospital; a 15-bed critical-access hospital; Heritage Commons, an attached 84-bed nursing home; Moses-Ludington Adult Care, a 23-bed adult home; Inter-Lakes Dental Clinic; and Lord Howe Estates, a 43-unit federally-subsidized housing complex for low-income senior citizens.

The first move will be a new interim chief executive officer for Inter-Lakes Health. Lisa Busby, the Ti facility's chief information officer, has been serving as interim CEO since Kevin Haughney resigned last summer. Fletcher Allen will arrange for Charles Miceli, vice president of Supply Chain and Pharmacy Services at Fletcher Allen, to serve as the Inter-Lakes interim chief executive officer, while a search for a permanent CEO takes place.

"I am very pleased that the health department has approved this agreement," Sandra Bolton, chairwoman of the Inter-Lakes Health board of directors, said in a prepared statement. "The hospital will benefit from Mr. Miceli's presence and from the depth of operational expertise he can draw upon that is usually found only at an academic medical center. Being able to share Fletcher Allen's management skills will help us to become a more cost-effective health care provider, which is vital in the new health care reform environment.

"With Kevin Haughney's resignation this past summer, the board of trustees asked Lisa Busby, our chief information officer, to serve as interim CEO for the short term and she has done a great job," Bolton continued. "With this new agreement approved by the state, Lisa can focus full-time on our information technology needs, and we will have an interim CEO with board operational skills and experience to provide daily direction and oversight for the hospital."

The agreement augments Inter-Lakes' access to Fletcher Allen's clinical expertise under an affiliation agreement that was established last July to enable both organizations to work more closely together in a coordinated system of care to meet the health care needs of the Ticonderoga community.

As part of a the collaboration agreement Fletcher Allen Health Care is already providing some of the physicians who provide care at Inter-Lakes Health.
