The Empire State Winter Games traditionally take place near the end of February. McKenna says a variety of factors led organizers to move the date up for next year.
"There's more availability for athletes in the area at that time, at the end of that President's Day holiday week it's pretty full and prices are more expensive then," he said. "Our intent is to grow it to be more than just a weekend event and the window to grow seems to be greater there at the beginning of February than at the end of February."
Kim Rielly of ROOST says the complete schedule will continue to evolve in the coming months.
The Empire State Winter Games is the largest multi-sport, amateur athletic winter sporting event in North America.
