Investigators: School counselor died of stab wounds

An autopsy report shows that a Malone Middle School counselor died due to multiple stab wounds.

Dr. Michael Sikirica, a forensic pathologist at Albany Medical Center, has also ruled that the death was, in fact, a homicide.

State police out of Malone responded to an assault early Monday morning in the town of Constable. Upon arrival, troopers found 45-year-old Karen L. Bourdon dead inside her home. Her 14-year-old daughter was unharmed and immediately removed from the scene.

Bourdon's 14-year-old son was apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody.

Essex County District Attorney Kristy Sprague has been appointed as special prosecutor for the case. Reports indicate that Franklin County District Attorney Derek Champagne has recused himself due to a close personal connection with Bourdon's family.

Sprague says Bourdon's son, Dilan Clark, has been charged as an adult with second-degree murder. Denton Publications had previously withheld his name due to his age and the lack of a formal charge from the DA's office.

The Troop "B" Forensic Identification Unit has finished processing the scene and seized multiple pieces of evidence. The investigation is considered ongoing.
