Police investigate apparent slaying in Constable

State police are investigating an apparent homicide in Franklin County that left a school counselor dead.

According to investigators out of Troop "B" headquarters in Ray Brook, Malone-based troopers were called to a home on state Route 30 in Constable at about 2 a.m. Monday.

Initial reports indicate that police found 45-year-old Karen L. Bourdon dead inside her residence. Troopers say Bourdon's 14-year-old daughter called in an assault in progress, and that the daughter was unharmed and immediately removed from the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Bourdon's 14-year-old son. He was apprehended at another address off state Route 30 at about 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Denton Publications is withholding the youth's name due to his age.

In a statement issued Monday afternoon, investigators said they had secured the scene, which is currently being processed by the Troop "B" Forensic Identification Unit.

The apparent homicide remains under investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Uniform Force personnel, including the Troop "B" Violent Crime Investigation Team.

Personnel from the aviation and canine divisions are assisting, alongside U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Malone Police Department.

Bourdon was a counselor at the Malone Middle School.
