Town searches for new airport clerk

Bailey Brekke has resigned from her position as account clerk at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear.

She has accepted a new job at the Franklin County Treasurer's Department in Malone.

The town of Harrietstown formally accepted her resignation "with regrets" during last Thursday's regular board meeting. Airport Manager Ross Dubarry said he's overloaded trying to do his job and hers.

"It consumes most of my time doing what she normally did," Dubarry said.

Town officials agreed to hire a new clerk, noting that the position is vital to carrying on administrative and grant writing duties at the airport.

A major overhaul of the airport is getting under way and the town hopes to secure grants to fund its completion. A grant for more than $400,000 has already been secured for the first phase of the project, which involves infrastructure work.

Dubarry said the airport plans to solicit bids for a new septic system within two weeks. Town officials have expressed interest in hiring a local contractor.

Construction is scheduled to begin early this summer.
