Community fundraisers to benefit Boushie, Garcia

The communities of Tupper Lake and Jay are hosting fundraisers this week to support two locals in need of help.

In Tupper Lake, a benefit dinner is being held to raise funds for Peter Boushie, who lost his home in a major structure fire last month.

The turkey dinner for Peter Boushie will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Tupper Lake. The dinner includes all the trimmings, with either dine-in or take-out available. A donation of $10 per person is requested.

Children are invited to dine-in for $5.

Delivery and take-out orders can be placed beginning today by calling 359-3401. The benefit also features a Chinese raffle, a 50/50 raffle, and other ticket raffles for weekend getaways.

Meanwhile, residents from the town of Jay and AuSable Forks will host a fundraiser for Luke Randy Garcia, a 16-month-old child suffering from a rare heart condition called congenital mitral stenosis.

According to a release issued Monica Thomas, who helped organize this weekend's benefit, Luke will need to travel to Boston Children's Hospital for several heart operations.

Tomorrow's fundraiser will help the family with their medical and travel expenses.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Riverside Bowling Lanes in AuSable Forks. The afternoon includes a bowling tournament and a Michigan dinner served until 10 p.m.

The benefit also features a 50/50 raffle. More information is available by calling Monica Thomas at 578-0101.
