Two teens die in Cold River crash

CLARENDON-In the early morning hours of March 18, Vermont State Police troopers were on the scene of a tragic single-vehicle crash on Cold River Road in Clarendon. The crash took place approximately one-tenth mile south of the Rutland Town-Clarendon Town line.

It was reported the vehicle went off the east side of the roadway and down an embankment where the vehicle came to rest in the Cold River.

Rutland Regional Ambulance and Clarendon Fire Department assisted with the scene. Members of the Vermont State Police crash reconstruction team were also activated for this incident.

The vehicle was located approximately 100 feet down the embankment in the Cold River. The vehicle was resting on its roof with major damage throughout.

Two occupants were located in the vehicle.

They were identified as Dominic McGuire of Proctor and Paul Cormia, Jr, of Rutland Town.

Police said a third person in the vehicle, 17-year-old Justin Slade of Proctor suffered non-life threatening injuries, and managed to walk to a residence near the scene and call for help.

Police said the crash took place at approximately 1 a.m. Friday morning on the Cold River Road in Clarendon, just south of the Rutland Town line. The car went 100 feet down an embankment into the river.

The Vermont State Police crash reconstruction team is investigating the incident.
