Saranac Lake has been nominated as the best place to fish in the United States as part of the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town contest.
World Fishing Network, a 24-hour fishing-lifestyle network, is conducting the search through a nationwide contest and awarding a $25,000 prize to the winning community. The network will air a show about the winner.
The network is accepting nominations from anglers across America who feel that they fish in World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town.
"No matter if they love to fish in a small rural community or a tourist mecca, we encourage everyone to nominate their favorite fishing spot," said Shauna Gosevitz, senior director of marketing for the network.
"This promotion gives us, and the participating towns, a great opportunity to profile the places where people love to fish all across the USA," she added.
For the preliminary round of voting, World Fishing Network divided the United States into seven voting regions: Pacific, Rockies, Southwest, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and Florida.
The nomination period ends April 8, with the first round of public voting April 12 through May 3.
The 20 finalists, comprising the two entries in each of the seven regions with the highest vote totals plus six wild-card entrants selected by World Fishing Network, will advance to the final round of voting May 10 through 31.
The results will be announced in a June ceremony in the winning community, which will be emceed by Mariko Izumi, host of World Fishing Network's "Hookin' Up with Mariko Izumi."
