Ti Kiwanis look forward to spring

TICONDEROGA-One lucky person is looking forward to spring, hoping fore more than warm weather.

Any day the Ticonderoga Kiwanis will have a winner in its "Win at 55" contest.

"Each week the temperature in Ticonderoga rises," said Bob Dedrick of the club. "Soon some fortunate person will be a $1,000 winner when the temperature reaches 55 degrees. The person who picks the second closest time will win $400 with the person who has the third closest time will collect $200."

During the winter members of the Kiwanis Club of Ticonderoga sold tickets requesting individuals to pick the date and time the temperature would reach 55 degrees in Ticonderoga.

A spreadsheet of all potential winners, listing names and times, have been placed in Burleigh's, Stewart's and McDonald's. Winners will be invited to a Kiwanis luncheon for a photo session. Any business wanting a spreadsheet can contact a Kiwanis member.

The temperature will be measured by underground weather.com at the official certified site for Underground Weather at the Downing residence on the Portage in Ticonderoga.

"The Kiwanis Club of Ticonderoga is a thriving organization of men and women dedicated to serving children and improving life for all," said Bill Bolton of the Kiwanis. "A central mission of Kiwanis is to provide a practical means to render humanitarian service, to form and foster enduring friendships, and to help build a better community.

"In our quest to fulfill this mission Ti Kiwanis has championed many projects both locally and worldwide," he continued. "Some of Kiwanis' more recent projects include development of the Percy Thompson Memorial Park, the annual Easter egg hunt, building of the ice rink warming hut, awarding of over $11,000 in scholarships for graduating seniors, support of the elementary school playground, hosting the annual senior citizen Christmas party and helping with the renovation of the Ticonderoga Municipal Beach Pavilion. Additionally each year Kiwanis members log hundreds of volunteer hours for the betterment of our area. Ticonderoga Kiwanis is proud of its long heritage of helping others since 1927."

To support its projects, the Kiwanis Club holds fundraising events such as "Win at 55."

"With your help the Kiwanis club can continue to accomplish its mission of helping make our community a great place to live and to better the lives of young people throughout the world," Bolton said.
