Season ends for Lady Orange at SUNY Potsdam state regionals

POTSDAM - After a Class D championship, a MVAC Section VII championship, a regional semi-final win, the senior laden Lady Orange of Indian Lake-Long Lake lost 41-38 in the regional final to Chateaugay. Supported by a rowdy and orange-clad cheering section, the girls finished seventh in the state.

John Reynolds was pointing his team towards Hudson Valley Community College and the state final four. But, he fell to the team coached by his own brother, who comforted his niece, senior starter and leading scorer for the Lady Orange after the contest.

The Bulldogs hit the Lady Orange hard with full-court pressure and intense defense, holding 15 points with two three-pointers. Allison Pine matched her and put up 15 points as well. Murphy Farrell, after earning her four foul late in the first half finished with four points. Melanie Pierson put up one three-pointer and Morgan Hinckley had one point in the loss.

Indian Lake-Long Lake hit the locker rooms at halftime up by two after a buzzer shot was sunk by Reynolds. But, without Farrell's speed, tough defense and ball handling, they were outshot 11-5 by Chateaugay in the third quarter.

Reynolds also found herself pushing the foul boundaries as well with three at the half.

TheLady Orange bounced back from several turnovers with made foul shots, but it was not enough to secure the win. The Bulldogs finished the third quarter 30-26.

Indian Lake-Long Lake made a final push in the final minute, but ran out of time to close the scoring gap.

The Orange bid Farrell to seniors Pierson, Pine, Meg Miller and Reynolds to graduation this year.
