"Teachers, the superintendent, principal, cafeteria staff, coaches, etc. are recruited to be the targets," Rice said of the sweet contest. "We usually have about 10 targets. Throughout the event, children buy chances, for 50 cents, to throw a pie at their favorite targets. The pie throw is held at the end of the event. Names are drawn to see who will get to throw the pie at the target. If they miss, then the target gets to throw a pie at them."
The line up for the pie-throwing contest is still being set, but past pie-in-the-face recipients have included Superintendent Bill Larrow, Principal Val Stahl, Coach Brian Cross and cafeteria staff member, Althea Decker. Rice expects them to participate again.
"There will be more but these are pretty sure bets," she said.
