Teacher Britney McCarthy's art room is one of the busiest rooms at Ticonderoga High School on an average day. March 10 it was busier than ever. McCarthy hosted Deb Breitenbach's English 9 class as well as her own art group for a lesson on illustrated manuscripts and Renaissance art. Students learned how early artists created their own parchment paper and paints. They interpreted several medieval paintings and heard the stories connected to Renaissance masterpieces like the Mona Lisa. Finally, they began to sketch an original illustrated manuscript using their own initial and drawings, a project they will continue through both their art and English classes.
