CHAZY - Orchard Side Restaurant and Catering is open for business.
The State Route 9 establishment opened last month in the former location of the Homestead Restaurant. Owner Diane Perry said the new business had been a venture in the works since last October, when she learned the restaurant would be going up for sale.
"It's something I've always wanted to do," Perry said of running a restaurant.
Drawing on more than a decade of working in the restaurant industry at various locations and having had her own cake decorating business, Perry felt it was time to pursue opening a restaurant/catering service to serve the people of the North Country. Thus, Orchard Side Restaurant and Catering was born.
Perry said she has assembled a staff of "key players" - including Marilyn Neverett, a woman with more than 30 years experience in the restaurant industry who serves as Orchard Side's manager - that will not only offer efficient, friendly service, but make people feel at home as well.
"It's getting to be like a family-run operation," said Perry, who added her daughter, Nicole Murphy, is among those who make up the team. "We brought a lot of family recipes and we're quite pleased to be doing this."
Orchard Side Restaurant and Catering will offer much of the same homestyle cooking people who frequented the former Homestead Restaurant were used to, Perry said.
"But, we're going to put a little flare into it," she said, adding people should come in to check out their menu, which includes a full line of baked goods.
Having the catering side of the business will also allow Perry and her crew to make their selections available outside the walls of Orchard Side.
"We'll do wedding events, funeral services, small parties, large parties, Christmas parties ... whatever the event might be," she said.
Orchard Side Restaurant and Catering, 9481 State Route 9, is open Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant may be reached by calling 846-8855.
"We look forward to seeing all our old friends and making new friends," Perry said.
