Flynn to speak at history series

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is pleased to announce the third program of their 2011 "Odds and Ends" Winter Lecture Series on Wednesday, March 23 at Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Lake Placid. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. with attendees encouraged to come for dinner at 6 p.m.

The third program in the four-part series is "Artifact Night" and will be hosted by Andy Flynn, former Lake Placid News editor and author of the "Adirondack Attic" book series and the Meet the Town community guides.

Flynn will start the program with a Community History Writing Workshop, a primer on researching and writing local history, and share stories from his "Adirondack Attic" book series, which showcases the archives and collections of the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.

Residents are encouraged to bring artifacts from home and tell stories about these objects during a show-and-tell session during the second half of the program. Due to the format of this presentation and audience participation, please allow up to 2 hours for this program.

The Winter Lecture Series has been titled "Odds and Ends" in memory of Laura Viscome, a longtime supporter of the Historical Society.
