Accident closes Route 17
Police responded to an accident March 9 in Addison at the intersection of Vermont Routes 22a and Route 1. A tractor trailer truck driven by Jonathan Pariseau, 50, of Brandon was traveling northbound on Route 22a in front of a rental truck driven by Michael Luciano, 34, of Schenectady, N.Y. Pariseau slowed and signaled to turn left on to Route 17 (westbound). Luciano did not see Pariseau slow and signal to turn and failed to slow sufficiently. Luciano then struck Pariseau while it was turning onto Vermont Route 17. The vehicles became stuck in the snow and could not move until a wrecker arrived on scene. Route 17 was closed down for approximately two hours until the vehicles were removed.

Emergency vehicle in accident
On March 6, an accident occurred along Route 22A approximately .3 mile north of the Benson Line in Orwell. A vehicle operated by Wesley Orr, 20, of Orwell, struck a vehicle operated by Tasha Wright, 34, of Barre. Wright's vehicle also contained unidentified 13-year-old and 6-year-old passengers. The highway was snow-covered and slippery at the time. Orr, a volunteer emergency grew member, was traveling south with emergency red lights activated and was on his way to a crash in Benson on Route 22A. As he encountered the vehicle being operated by Wright, she slowed down and moved over to the right to allow Orr to pass. Orr lost control of his vehicle and was following too closely; he rear ended Wright's vehicle. One of Wright's children was transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
