TL man hit with child pornography charges

A local man was taken into custody this week for allegedly possessing and promoting child pornography.

The Tupper Lake Police Department, in coordination with the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, arrested 38-year-old James L. Tabolt Jr. of Tupper Lake at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Tabolt was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child and possession of a sexual performance by a child, both class-D felonies.

The arrest follows an investigation by village police and state police and alleges that Tabolt had images of child pornography on his personal computer. Investigators also say he shared those images with other unidentified subjects.

Tabolt was arraigned in Tupper Lake Town Court before Justice Leonard Young and remanded to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
