WILLSBORO-The clearing work has been done, and the town of Willsboro is ready to start work on the new recreation park located at Noblewood.
"We have between 20 and 30 acres that are ready to be used for this project," Willsboro Supervisor Ed Hatch said. "This will be the beginning of our first phase of the new recreational park located on the Essex Road."
The town is using a combination of in-kind services and grants to help fund the majority of the project, which is estimated to cost $133,484, with $10,000 of that being paid by the town.
Work will begin in May with the renovation of the parking lot and the start of construction on a silt fence, 24-foot entrance to the park and culvert installation.
"Upon completion, the Town Department of Public Works will commence digging for the tennis court facility," Hatch said. "We have been without quality tennis courts for a while, now, and this will be a great addition to the park."
Further work includes the creation of a sports field, a baseball field, walking track, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and a playground. That work will continued through the construction season of 2011.
In 2012, work will include installation of the goal posts and back stop, landscaping, construction of sanitary facilities, a storage shed, timber barrier, benches and signage.
"The park will be available for complete use in September of 2012," Hatch said.
Hatch added that the town is looking into a second phase for the park, which will include a trail system for nature walks, exercise, cross country skiing and snow shoeing.
"We are currently seeking additional grant funds to aid in the fruition of this second phase," Hatch said.
