Owens labeled 'Centrist'

PLATTSBURGH - Congressman William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, was recently identified by the National Journal as being 44 percent liberal and 56 percent conservative, making him the eighth-most conservative Democrat in Congress. The National Journal founded its ranking on a summation of 93 key votes in 2010, which labeled Owens a centrist.

Owens replaced Congressman John McHugh in a 2009 special election, filling the remainder of his term with the 23rd Congressional District. McHugh, a Republican, was appointed the new secretary of the Army, by Democratic President Barack Obama.
