Girl Scouts assisting soldiers

"The service unit would like to thank Becky Barber, a senior girl scout who organized this event," Debbie Barber said. "The unit would also like to thank the following girls for their help at this event: Michaela Comes from Troop 3286, Victoria Sawyer and Tori Fleury from Troop 3256, MyKayla Holt, Susan Ward, Emily Powers, MyKenzie Strum and Shelby Turner from Troop 3068, and Jordyn Borho from Troop 3193. We would also like to thank our adult volunteers: Ann Arno, Ann Westervelt, Lisa Westervelt, Lynn Sawyer, Penny Comes, Christa Cole, Penny Mosley and Melody Borho."

Approximately 50 area girls went bowling at Adirondack Lanes March 5. The event too provided an opportunity for the girls of Moriah, Schroon Lake, Ticonderoga and Crown Point to get together and have some fun.

Future events include snow tubing at Tubby Tubes in Lake Luzerne, Dance Party, Mother/Daughter Tea and an end-of-the-year bridging ceremony.

Other community service projects conducted by area Girl Scouts include a Breast Cancer Walk, which was organized by Lynn Sawyer and her Troop 3256. Susan Ward, MyKenzie Strum from troop 3193 and Becky Barber from Troop 3286 and Jordyn Borho from Troop 3193 helped serve dinner to the Elks at the Elks Lodge earlier this fall. On Feb. 5 girls from Troops 3193, 3286, 3256 and 3410 helped serve hot chocolate to help warm up all those who were sliding in the park at the annual Winter Fest in downtown Ticonderoga. Soda tabs were collected by Ann Arno and her Troop 3410 which were donated to the Ronald McDonald House. They also donated food to the Holiday Train. On Dec. 14 Troops 3410 and 4040 helped serve dinner at Moriah school for the senior citizens. Troop 4036 sang Christmas carols at this event. Troop 3410 has also collected items for the SPCA.
