Watershed Plan Steering Committee meets

SCHROONLAKE - The Schroon Lake Watershed Management Plan Steering Committee met recently in Schroon Lake.

Members from the towns of Chester, Horicon and Schroon, the East Shore Schroon Lake Association (ESSLA), the Schroon Lake Association (SLA), and Warren County Soil and Water Districts were present. 

The focus of the meeting was to start to implement some of the goals set forth in the management plan.

Goals were discussed and several action items were assigned to individuals and subcommittees.  Topics addressed were education in public schools as well as the public at large, septic systems and their impact on the lake, a comprehensive plan for invasive species, and working with the highway departments to lessen the environmental impact of salt on the roads. 

The committee also agreed to continue the chemical testing and add biological water testing to further protect the waters of Schroon Lake and the Schroon River.
