Raquette Lake fundraiser scheduled

RAQUETTE LAKE-Once again, a tricky tray fundraiser will be held at Raquette Lake School onRt. 28. The event will take place on July 9, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

"It's a fun event for the entire family," organizer Elizabeth Forsell said. "There's something for everybody."

Proceeds from the benefit will be split between a scholarship for the Indian Lake Central School Class of 2012 and St. Williams on Long Point.

Forsell said schools such as Tupper Lake Central School give out many more scholarships than ILCS, which are needed to purchase expensive textbooks in college.

"I wanted to have an extra scholarship in Indian Lake School,"Forsell said. "I just don't think they give out enough awards." The 2011 scholarship recipient was Erica Arsenault.

"She was one of girl scouts back in the day," Forsell said.

Arsenault is going to Herkimer County Community College majoring in accounting. She will be the first in her family to attend college, Forsell said.

The other half of the money raised from the tricky tray fundraiser will go toward refurbishing the St. Williams on Long Point building and grounds.

A Catholic church in a prior life, St.Williams is now a non-profit, non-demonitational conference center which can be rented for weddings, family reunions and other small retreats,Forsell said.

The old church, which was built in the 1890s, has been resided and reshingled, according to Forsell. The next step is to restore the stenciling on the wainscoting walls.

Donations of tricky tray items are needed. Those wishing to donate a tray may drop them off at the Raquette Lake School or call Forsell at 315-354-4001 to arrange pickup. Generally a tray is the equivalent to $5-$10 value. The items are put on a tray and spectators buy tickets similar. All trays are auctioned off to the winning number.

This is an opportunity to get rid of some of those items one meant to re-gift. Forsell will take them off your hands. Clothing with tags on will be accepted.

Anyone unable to get tray items may donate cash; items will be purchased in one'sname.

Door prizes are drawn at intervals. Concessions will be available during the event. For more information, contact Forsell at the number listed above.
