Man arrested after accident

RUTLAND- On June 19, a vehicle was being operated by an unknown person was traveling west on Route 4A in West Rutland. The driver operated crossed the center line and traveled into the eastbound lane. The operator of the second vehicle, Robert Mayfield of Rutland, saw that the first vehiclewas crossing into his lane and took evasive action to avoid a head on collision.

Mayfield's car was occupied by two adults and two children. The first driver immediately fled the scene after the crash. There were no reported injuries. West Rutland Fire and Regional Ambulance assisted at the scene.

On June 23, James Cross of Bomoseen was later arrested for the offense of leaving the scene of an accident.

Through investigation, and interviews, it was determined that Cross was the unknown operator. Cross was cited to appear in Rutland Superior Court Criminal Division at a later date.
