The Addison County Legion baseball team broke into the win column rolling to a 16-6 win over visiting S.D. Ireland June 21, 2011.

The local nine spotted their guests an early five-run lead before tying the contest with five runs in the fourth inning. Devon Hayes had the big blow in the inning smacking a double that drove in a pair of runs helping knot the score at 6-6.

Coach Mike Esty's ball club then blew the game wide open erupting for eight runs in the fifth. Addison County sent 12 hitters to the plate in the frame. Nate Tabor and Anthony Vanderwalker led the assault. Tabor had two hits in the inning scoring a run and driving one in as well. And Vanderwalker bashed a bases clearing double that plated three runs as Addison County claimed a commanding 14-6 lead.

They would add two more in the sixth in rolling to the victory. Addison County is now 1-4 overall on the young season 1-2 in Northern Division play.

New Hampshire edges Vermont

New Hampshire got a goal from Megan Grew in overtime to defeat Vermont in the 29th field hockey classic between the two states.

South Burlington's Ashley McDonald had the lone goal for the green mountain state. There were two local players on the Vermont roster, Tiffany Audet from Middlebury and Courtney Jipner from Mount Abraham Union High.

Vermont went into the game looking to make it two wins in a row. New Hampshire claims a 16-9-3 lead in the series with the victory. Amtrack running train to Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

Here is something special for those thinking of going to the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl game in Aug. 6. In an effort to draw ridership for the Vermonter Amtrack will run the train from St. Albans to Windsor with intermediate stops in Essex Junction, Waterbury, Montpelier, Randolph and White River Junction.
