Lake George man charged with welfare fraud

LAKEGEORGE - James G. Brewer, 57, of Lake George was charged with welfare fraud in the fourth degree, a class E felony, grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony, and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony.

Brewer applied for Food Stamp and Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits on October 22, 2010 with the Department of Social Services and failed to report his rental income. As a result, Brewer received approximately $1,152 in Food Stamp benefits and $1,570 in HEAP benefits that he was otherwise ineligible to receive.

Brewer was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Queensbury Town Court on July 18, 2011 at 9 a.m.
