It's time to party for the fourth

Tupper Lake

Independence Day will be celebrated in Municipal Park on Sunday, July 3, starting at 7 p.m. with appearances by bands Lost in Transition and Abbot Hayes.

People are encouraged to bring a blanket and a picnic for the event, and the annual fireworks display will kick off around 9:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce and the town and village of Tupper Lake.


The Jay Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual Independence Day celebration on Monday, July 4, beginning with a parade at noon. Following the parade, there will be food and fun on the firehouse grounds with hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries, sausages, cotton candy, games of chance and bingo. The popular "greased pole" will be on the grounds. This year, a local band, Lucid, will perform. Fireworks will be displayed at dusk.

Also, The Beer Run Association will continue on its charity event quest by hosting the "2011 Run to the Beer Tent" (Jay Fire Department's Annual Fourth of July Celebration) fundraiser. The approximate 2.5-mile run will begin at 2 p.m. at Devin's Garage in Jay and finish at the Beer Tent. The cost to participate is $10 (includes a refreshing beverage and a Beer Run) or $15 (includes a refreshing beverage, Beer Run and an Association T-Shirt).

Lake Placid

Lake Placid will host its annual Fourth of July Parade on Monday, July 4, with the parade stepping off at 5 p.m. onto Main Street from Cummins Road.

Line-up for the parade will begin at 4:30 p.m., and awards for the parade will follow the event in the park.
