Amtrak to run Maple Sugar Bowl specials

RUTLAND -As part of its promotion to get more people to ride The Vermonter, Amtrak will offer a special deal to deliver fansto the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl in Windsor Saturday, Aug. 6.

The 58th Annual Bowl Game, and it accompanying parade, is being held in Windsor and the timing with The Vermonter is ideal. The big football game-which features 72 of the finest high school players in Vermont and New Hampshire-kicks-off at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 6, just three blocks from Main Street, Windsor.

The train leaves St. Albans at 8:30 a.m. and arrives in Windsor at 11:23, with intermediate stops at Essex Junction, Waterbury, Montpelier, Randolph and White River Junction.

Tickets are priced $12 each way no matter which station a person departs from.

The spectacular Shrine Parade starts at noon one block from the Amtrak station inWindsor.

The game is normally over by 5:30 and the northbound Vermonter leaves Windsor at 6:20.

"The train ride will be fun and eliminates any worry about parking. What a great bargain! We want to thank Amtrak for making it possible," said, Wayne Shepard, General Chairman of the 2011 Bowl Game.

A Sugar Maple Bowl train schedule is available from Amtrak. Tickets must be purchased at least one day in advance by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL. The discounted tickets will not be available on board the train.
