Westport community mourns passing of Agnes Tanneberger

WESTPORT-Westport and the local community took time to remember the matriarch of the Tanneberger family last week.

Agnes K. "Ag" Tanneberger, 84, passed away June 15, 2011 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Tanneberger and her husband, Dr. Frank Tanneberger, who were married after meeting at Cornell University on Sept. 13, 1947, moved to Westport in 1948.

The Tannebergers bought the current family home in 1951 and were the parents of eight children: Ellen (Stiles), Barbara (Baldwin), Robert, Jean (LeVien), Mary, Anthony, Carol (Schwoebel) and Dr. Thomas Tanneberger, whom predeceased her. She was also a grandmother to 16 grandchildren.

Tanneberger was remembered as a devoted mother, friend and member of the Westport community. She was active at the St. Philip Neri Church, in the garden, painting and as a member of the Westport Bridge Club, which was started in 1953.

Calling hours were held on June 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Westport. A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, June 20, at St. Philip Neri Church in Westport, with burial following in the parish cemetery.
